CEOs Charged With Medicare Fraud
The US Attorney for the Central District of California has announced the indictment of two medical equipment company executives who are accused of Medicare fraud related to the sale of unnecessary durable medical equipment. The pair were charged in a seven-count indictment unsealed yesterday.
The two are accused of billing Medicare for $3,557,134 for equipment that was never provided or for equipment that the pair knew that clients did not need. The executives, Adekunle and Kim Shittu, operated two different equipment companies - Kimco Medical Supply, Inc., and K&K Medical Supply, Inc.
The Medicare Fraud Strike Force, a multi-agency investigative team that began its Los Angeles operations earlier this year, made the arrests following an investigation. The team has made nearly 200 arrests in more than 100 cases in both Los Angeles and Miami. The pair face more than 55 years in prison, and mandatory restitution if convicted on all charges.
